What is phishing?
Phishing is a type of cyber attack in which attackers try to deceive individuals or organizations into revealing sensitive information, such as usernames, passwords, credit card details, or other personal information. This is typically done by posing as a trustworthy entity through various means, such as fake emails, websites, or messages.
What is ransomware?
Ransomware is a type of malicious software (malware) designed to encrypt a victim's files or lock them out of their computer system until a ransom is paid to the attacker. In other words, it is a form of cyberattack where the attacker demands payment, usually in cryptocurrency, to provide the victim with the decryption key or a tool to unlock their files or system.
💡Tips to prevent
phishing and ransomware
✅ Be Skeptical: Don't trust unsolicited emails, messages, or phone calls, especially if they ask for personal or financial information. Verify the sender's identity before responding or clicking on any links.
✅ Use Antivirus software: Install reputable antivirus and antimalware software and keep it up to date. These programs can detect and block ransomware threats.
✅ Back up your data: Regularly backup your important data to an external hard drive, cloud storage, or a secure backup service. Disconnect backups from your network to prevent ransomware from encrypting them.
✅ Use Multi-Factor Authentication - Enable MFA wherever possible to add an extra layer of security to user accounts. This prevents unauthorized access even if passwords are compromised.
✅ Educate Yourself: Learn about common phishing and ransomware tactics and educate your family and colleagues about them. Awareness can go a long way in preventing attacks.
